On December 20th Strathspey SUP & Moray SUP Club took to the water on Loch Insh for a charity sup dressed as Santa to raise funds for DSUK (Disability Snowsports Scotland). Thank you to Loch Insh Outdoor Centre who provided a covid safe area for us to have a registration point set up and use of their car park for the event.
DSUK are an adaptive snowsports charity operating ski schools at a number of locations throughout the UK & abroad. An annual fundraising event for them in Aviemore is the DSUK Santa Run. Due to the covid pandemic the run was postponed for 2020, the charity loosing out on funds from the entries to support the work they do.
Following strict covid guidelines; limited numbers & social distancing etc the two SUP clubs organised a day at Loch Insh to head out on the SUPs. It was a fantastic sight to witness with many passer bys and locals at the centre taking photos and asking why there was Santas' out SUPing on the loch! There will certainly be more people taking part in 2021 if covid regulations allow! A £5 donation by each person raised £135 for the charity.
Thank you to Jonny Freshwater & Loch Insh Outdoor Centre who provided a covid safe area for us to have a registration point set up and use of their car park for the event. Thank you to Moray SUP Club who helped organise the event and a big thank you to all who attended, abided by the covid regulations and brought some festive cheer to the Lochside!
The clubs are hoping to make this an annual event and with hope that restrictions are lifted to allow for more people to attend to help raise funds for the local charity. Places filled up within 2 days of announcing the SUP day so if you are feeling festive with the run up to Christmas 2021 keep an eye on the social paddles page for the sign up!
